How to get to Montélimar?

The city of Montélimar is located 150 km south of Lyon, 50 km south of Valence and 80 km north of Avignon.

By car
  • Coming from the south: A7 motorway, exit 18 Montélimar sud then follow signs for Montélimar centre.
  • From the North:
    A7 motorway, exit 17 Montélimar nord then follow signs for Montélimar centre.

    To get to the castle:

  • Follow the signs for "cemetery" towards Montélimar Castle.
  • It is best to park in the city centre of Montélimar and then walk up to the castle (10 to 15 min).
By train and bus

From Montélimar SNCF and bus station, the castle is a 15-minute walk away. Information.

By bike
  • ViaRhôna nearby, consisting of cycle routes and greenways.
Is it easy to park?
  • For light vehicles onlyIt is possible to park near the castle, on Rue de Narbonne. but it is not a dedicated parking lot.

The city centre of Montélimar has several car parks located 5 to 10 minutes walk from the castle:

  • Parking lots in the Saint-Martin district
  • July 14th Parking
  •  Parking des Allées Provençales

It is then possible to reach the castle on foot via the Montant au château street or via the Plateau de Narbonne (approximately 10 minutes).

Parking is also available in the Saint-Lazare cemetery car park.

The castle is accessible by car by following the signs for "cemetery" towards "Château des Adhémar". Once there, parking can be difficult or even prohibited.

  •  For coaches and minibusesIt is possible to park in the city centre, on the side of Espace Saint-Martin, near the Tourist Office.
  •  Access to the castle is not suitable for camping-cars

Baby equipment
Is the tour route accessible with a stroller?

Strollers and metal baby carriers are not permitted on the tour route. If needed, you can leave your stroller at the castle entrance (at the Reception desk). Our staff can provide Ergobaby carriers depending on availability (ID required). For your convenience, we recommend bringing a front-facing baby carrier for your visit.

Is there a changing table at the castle?

There is no changing table, but it is possible to use one in a secluded area at the castle reception. Don't hesitate to ask the staff there.

Changing rooms and luggage storage
Can I leave my belongings somewhere during my visit?

There are no changing rooms or lockers at Montélimar Castle.

Pets
Can I visit the castle with my pet?

Animals are not allowed at Montélimar Castle.
If you come with several people, it is possible to stay with your pet in the park, where it must be kept on a leash, while you take turns visiting the castle.

We remind you that it is forbidden to leave an animal locked alone in a vehicle, even if you are parked in a shaded area.

Food and drinks
Am I allowed to eat inside the castle?

Eating is not permitted within the grounds of Montélimar Castle.

However, you can use the park for your lunch or snack breaks.

Is there a machine to buy a snack or a drink?

Yes, there is a vending machine available at the castle reception (drinks + sweet snacks).

Is there a restaurant on site?

Montélimar town centre is a 5-minute walk from the castle. There are many dining options available, depending on your preferences and budget.

What are the temperatures at the castle in winter and summer?

Be prepared, the temperature inside the castle varies according to the seasons.
In summer, it can get hot in the rooms, so remember to bring water. You can refill your containers on site. If needed, bottled water is available for purchase from a vending machine. Conversely, it can get cold in the castle in winter.

What are the opening hours?

Montélimar Castle is open from the winter holidays until the end of December.
Opening days and times vary depending on the season, school holidays, and public holidays. For detailed opening hours, please visit the page "Schedules"

What are the closing days?

Depending on the season, the castle may be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The castle is closed annually from the end of the Christmas holidays until the beginning of the winter holidays for the thorough maintenance of the castle and its collections. It is also closed during the second and third weeks of December for the installation of the Christmas display, as well as on December 25th and January 1st.

Do I need to book my ticket in advance?

There is no obligation to book online, but the ticket office allows you to purchase tickets in advance and reserve self-guided or guided tours and activities. Tickets for self-guided and guided tours can also be purchased on-site (subject to availability for guided tours).
However, our visitors are strongly advised to book their tickets in advance for activities and guided tours where the number of participants is limited.

Do children need tickets?

Yes, children must also have a ticket, although the price varies depending on the program and age.

Are there guided tours?

A 30-minute outdoor tour is offered on Saturdays and Sundays, excluding school holidays. It is included in the castle entrance ticket.

Can we book a guide?

Yes, this is subject to a reservation at the group package rates.

Are there guided tours in English, German, or Dutch?
  • For individual visitors, the flash tour can be provided in English during the summer season.

  • For groupsIt is possible to arrange a guided tour in English upon reservation.
Until what time can I enter the castle for a visit?

The last access to the tour route takes place 30 minutes before the castle closes.
This should also be taken into account during midday closures (lunch break).

Photos and videos
Am I allowed to take photos in the castle?

During your visit, you may take photos for personal and family use.

I would like to have wedding photos taken at the castle, is that possible?

Wedding photographs are not permitted at the castle. except in exceptional circumstances decided by the Director of the establishment.

No exceptions will be made at the entrance to the site by the reception and ticket office staff. Thank you for your understanding.

I would like to do a video shoot and/or a photo shoot for a video/photo project at the castle, is that possible?

Any form of photo shoot or video clip for personal, professional and/or commercial use (singer, musician, band, clothing brand, costume rental, perfume, cosmetics or other…) requiring or not requiring specific outfits or costume changes inside the castles must the subject of a prior request and a fee-based service.


Initially, filming may be authorized subject to project approval by the communications department and/or management; subsequently, the project is submitted to the sales department for a customized quote. To this end, A detailed and reasoned request must be sent by email at least 45 days before the desired date to leschateaux@ladrome.fr in order to be studied by the relevant departments.
